Businesses spent an average of 4.8 weeks managing employment tribunal claims between July 2022 and July 2024, despite 62% of claims being settled before the final hearing.
Research shared by People Management magazine found that unfair dismissal was the biggest problem, making up nearly a quarter of claims. 22% were for disability discrimination, wrongful dismissal made up 17.4% and TUPE and holiday pay both accounted for 16%.
Employers dealt with an average 37 disciplinary matters and 35 grievance in the two year period, with more than half of the tribunal claims related to the grievance process. Large organisations faced an average of 44 legal claims.
Ian spoke to People Management about the potential impact of the Employment Rights Bill. While new and extended rights give the potential for more claims, the longer period to make a claim could benefit both parties.
