Today, our Director and Founder Ian Jones celebrates 30 years since qualifying as a solicitor!
Ian qualified in 1991, choosing to become a solicitor because he enjoys dealing with people. He chose Employment Law as it is all about people - "it affects almost everybody, significantly so."
Ian says: "Work is such a big part of our lives that Employment issues can have a serious impact on one’s wellbeing, and making a claim can be very emotional for clients. For businesses, particularly smaller businesses, employment claims can have a huge impact on our client’s livelihoods.
"I feel most fulfilled in my work when I can help a client to move on from their case with a result that they are pleased with."
Ian had been a partner and Head of Litigation with larger firms before setting up Spencer Shaw in 2007.
I would definitely recommend Ian Jones to anyone. An exceptionally nice man.
A consumate professional who made the whole matter much less stressful.
He decided to set up his own law firm because "there was a need to relate to clients in a way that solicitors mostly weren’t doing at the time. Legal issues can be daunting for people without legal expertise, and it is our job as solicitors to make the process simple for them, to help them understand their options and support them in finding a solution that suits them as swiftly as possible. Too often, I felt that solicitors weren’t doing this for their clients, so I set up Spencer Shaw Solicitors to offer that service."
And, from the huge amount of positive reviews Ian has accumulated, it's clear that clients appreciate this approach. Not only is Ian extremely knowledgable in Employment Law, but clients appreciate his clear communcation, personable approach, and friendly manner. His clear passion for helping clients translates into excellent customer service.
Ian is also a keen fundraiser, and often takes on challenges to support local charities. He has cycled 100 miles around the Midlands to raise money for Birmingham Children's Hospital, and completed 3,100 press ups in a month for Edward's Trust.
We hope you will join us in congratulating Ian on his incredible achievements over the last 30 years, and wishing him many more years of success.
He was able to turn a really horrible, stressful process into a resolved situation ... Aside from the above, he was courteous, communicative, friendly, approachable and understanding.
Ian is a rare creature, a solicitor who not only has a huge intellect and ability to quickly get to the heart of a legal problem, but he does so with a smile and a great sense of humour. It has been a real pleasure dealing with someone who can make what was, for me, a complicated contract issue, clear and understandable. He’s professional at all times. Highly recommended.
