On Wednesday 11th February, Laura attended a careers event at Birmingham City University to answer students' questions about networking.
As a mentor, Laura supports the careers department to help students develop skills they will need in the world of work. Networking isn't something that comes naturally to all of us, and so Laura was keen to reassure students that it isn't as difficult as it seems.
The session had a great turnout, with students keen to learn and answering some fantastic questions.
Laura and fellow mentors Mark Francis and Keith Rozelle advised about how to keep in touch with your network, how to approach a group, how keen is too keen, and accepting that some connections aren't going to happen.
It is always rewarding to be involved in mentoring and careers development. Not only does it give us chance to look back on our own progress, but it is always refreshing to meet the professionals of the future - which is looking bright!
