Snowdon climb raises over £2,400 for the MND Association
Posted on 11th October 2022
This weekend, our Business Development Officer Laura climbed Snowdon with friends and family to fundraise for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Laura organised the climb to mark what should have been her Dad's birthday and raise money for the MND Association in his memory. She chose Snowdon as John had climbed the mountain in 2017, not long before he was diagnosed with MND in 2018 and died in 2021. As a fit and strong man, this was his last sporting achievement before he began suffering symptoms. MND gradually stops messages from the motor neurones from reaching the muscles, leading the muscles to weaken, stiffen and waste. Eventually this affects walking, talking, eating, drinking and breathing.
The group set off up the Pyg Track at 9.30 and descended the Llanberis track, finishing at 4.30 for a celebratory drink on the way home. The weather was kind, staying dry and mild. While the summit was cloudy and windy, there were good views for most of the walk.
The walk has raised almost £2,400 (plus gift aid) for the MND Association, which supports people with MND and their families, and carries out research to try and help find treatments for the disease. You can still donate here: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/snowdonfordad
