As a firm, we look to employ people based on their personality and attitude as much as their experience. We've built a thriving team by recruiting individuals who work well together, who share a commitment to customer service and a passion for helping people.
We have seen that by offering our employees a balance between their careers and their life outside of work, we attract and retain some of the best talent in the sector. 80% of our team currently make use of our flexible working, whether that be in their hours, their location or both.
We understand that it is important you find a workplace that is the right fit for you too. You can also Meet our Team to find out more about who you could be working with, and read our latest updates to see what we've been up to.

We want to work with people who understand why excellent service is so important to us, who take pride in providing the best representation to clients. We look for people who share our belief in:
Guiding clients to make the best choices for their case, using our specialist knowledge and experience of employment law and procedures.
Actively progressing every matter. We focus on quality of service, not quantity of cases, so every issue gets the attention it needs, when it needs it.
Providing clear information on fees so that clients have control of their costs right from the start.
Keeping clients up to date about their matter. Clients shouldn’t need to chase us to find out what is happening.
We are happy to discuss flexible working for all available roles. Our team currently makes use of a variety of flexible options including working from home, hybrid working, condensed hours and part time hours.

Spencer Shaw Solicitors has been the first legal practice in 36 years where I am treated as a full member of the team despite not working full time hours. It has been a breath of fresh air. Working at Spencer Shaw has allowed me to continue in the work I really enjoy yet still have time to help care for my Granddaughter. There is a lot of talk regarding work/life balance, and I am grateful that I have finally found a solicitor’s firm that practices this whole heartedly. As a team, through technology, team meetings and the firm’s ethos this works well for our clients, the firm and ourselves.
Working at Spencer Shaw is incredibly rewarding. The Directors are approachable and have a genuine interest in the team. They are fully aware that everyone’s role is crucial in delivering an excellent service and understand not everyone is the same, we can deliver in different ways. Ian’s approach as a principal is unique. He familiar with everyone’s cases and is available to discuss cases and share his expertise. I have worked in many law firms throughout my career, and this firm stands out because of the personal approach - everyone feels valued and there is a mutual respect.
The best thing about working at Spencer Shaw Solicitors is the team. We are all different personalities and gel perfectly. Ian’s knowledge is second to none. When I ask his opinion or advice, his responses are immediate and on point, not just the law which of course he knows back to front but the soft skills how to deal with difficult situations.
People don't believe me when I say that a law firm is the nicest employer I've ever had! Ian and Neal are both genuinely open to suggestions and new ideas, and I always feel my work is appreciated. It's a great, supportive team to work in, and it feels that we all share in the successes of the firm. I never felt like an inconvenience when I worked part time, even if I needed to swap my days at short notice. That flexibility has continued now I'm full time. If I need to work from home or fit in a dentist appointment it is never a problem, which relieves a lot of stress.
Working with Spencer Shaw Solicitors is great because it has a very personal atmosphere. You don’t feel like just another number, you feel valued.
