Employment in Hereford
Hereford sits at the centre of a largely rural county, and so agriculture and food and drink production are key industries. In particular, the area is central to cider production, with many acres of orchards across the county. The area has a high employment rate, and the gender pay gap is lower than average across the West Midlands. 15% of the population are self-employed.
A new higher education institution, specialising in technology and engineering, is planned for Hereford, which will attract a student population to the area.
