HR Grapevine: Supporting managers who are thrown into the role
Posted on 21st November 2023
Ian appeared in HR Grapevine's article, advising how a well written handbook can support managers who are new to the role.
Often, employees are promoted due to success in their previous role, rather than any specific managerial skills. HR Grapevine wanted to know how employers can support managers who may not have had training or lack managerial eperience.
Ian spoke about how clear policies can reduce over reliance on managers, empowering staff to resolve their own issues or at least take simple steps before involving managers. This means that any time managers are involved, their time is well used, and they don't have to spend time finding or explaining policies. The simpler and more tailored your policies are, the less training managers will need to apply them.
HR Grapevine also spoke to HR experts about bedding in periods, and how to help with the adjustment from player to coach.
