Working at Spencer Shaw is incredibly rewarding. The Directors are approachable and have a genuine interest in the team. They are fully aware that everyone’s role is crucial in delivering an excellent service, which creates an environment where everyone feels valued. There is a mutual respect. Working at Spencer Shaw has enabled me to have a work life balance, and this has never been an issue. Working part time is still an alien concept in many law firms, and this is where Spencer Shaw have excelled. I still feel my input as a team member is valued and important. 

Ian’s approach as a principal is unique. He is available to discuss difficult cases and share his expertise. Despite everyone having their own caseload, Ian is familiar with everyone’s cases and this is encouraged across the board. 

 

I have worked in many law firms throughout my career, and this firm stands out because of the personal approach. I am truly privileged to work with such a forward-thinking law practice.

Ian’s knowledge is second to none. When I ask his opinion or advice, his responses are immediate and on point, not just the law which of course he knows back to front but the soft skills how to deal with difficult situations. 

 

 

 

 

People don't believe me when I say that a law firm is the nicest employer I've ever had! Ian and Neal are both genuinely open to suggestions and new ideas, and I always feel my work is appreciated. It's a great, supportive team to work in, and it feels that we all share in the successes of the firm. Some workplaces don’t really cater for non-parents with their flexible working, so I am incredibly grateful for the genuine flexibility at Spencer Shaw. When I worked part time to help care for my Dad, I never had to justify working part time or needing to swap my usual working days, and I was never made to feel inconvenient. This took away so much stress for me, and gave me much needed time with my Dad in his last years, for which I will always be grateful. That flexibility has continued now I'm full time. If I need to work from home or change my hours to fit in a dentist appointment it is never a problem, which relieves a lot of stress. 

 

 

 

Spencer Shaw Solicitors has been the first legal practice in 36 years where I am treated as a full member of the team despite not working full time hours. It has been a breath of fresh air. Working at Spencer Shaw has allowed me to continue in the work I really enjoy yet still have time to help care for my Granddaughter. There is a lot of talk regarding work/life balance, and I am grateful that I have finally found a solicitor’s firm that practices this whole heartedly. As a team, through technology, team meetings and the firm’s ethos this works well for our clients, the firm and ourselves.
